📖 Rules

Complete rules for ReverStarGo

🎯 1. Overview

ReverStarGo is a two-player strategy board game played on a six-pointed star board. It combines Reversi's "flip by flanking" mechanic with Go's "capture by surrounding" mechanic, creating an entirely new strategic experience.

🎲 3. Setup

📌 4. Basic Rules

① Placing Stones
You can only place a stone where it flanks at least one opponent's stone. If you have no valid move, your turn is passed.

② Flipping
All flanked opponent stones are flipped to your color.

③ Capturing by Surrounding
When your stones completely surround opponent's stones, those stones are captured and added to your score. The captured cells become empty and can be played on again.
Unlike Go, the board edge (wall) does not count as part of a surrounding. You must surround entirely with your own stones.

④ Existing Surroundings are Protected
Opponent stones that were already surrounded before your move cannot be captured by an unrelated move. Only a new surrounding completed by your current move counts as a capture.

💎 5. Core Point (CP) Rules

The CP is the special center cell of the board.

① Call Required
When you play a move that flanks through the CP, you must "call" either Black or White immediately after placing your stone, before flipping.

② Treated as Called Color
The CP is then treated as containing a stone of the called color for the rest of the game (until the next call).

③ Capturing the CP
The CP can be captured by surrounding, just like any other stone. Surrounding only the CP also counts as a capture.

🏆 6. Winning

The game ends when any of the following occurs:

Each player's score = stones remaining on the board + stones captured by surrounding. The player with the higher score wins.

If scores are tied, the player with more captured stones wins.
If both scores and captures are also tied, the game is a draw.

🔄 7. Ko Rule

The ko rule prevents infinite repetition of the same board position.

① Basic Rule
You cannot make a move that returns the board to the exact same position as one move ago.
You also cannot make a move that returns the board to any previously seen position.

② Exception
If you have no other valid moves, you may play a ko move (one that returns to the same position).

③ After the Exception
Immediately after the exception is applied, the opponent cannot play a move that returns to the same position.

④ Game End
If both players can only play ko moves and the situation persists, the game ends and the winner is determined by the current scores.

🔄 8. Reverse Match

To eliminate the advantage of going first or second, matches at Lv.5 or higher automatically use the "Reverse Match" format.

① Two Games per Set
You play the same opponent twice, with black and white swapped between the two games.

② Total Score Decides the Winner
The player with the higher combined score over the two games wins. Even if you lose the first game, a strong second game can turn it around.

③ Colors Alternate Across Sets
When playing multiple sets, the colors naturally alternate between sets:
· Set 1: Black → White
· Set 2: White → Black
· Set 3: Black → White
(This pattern continues in regular matches as well, unless you change colors manually.)

④ Scope
All Lv.5+ matches (regular matches and rank-up exams).
* Not applied in two-player mode or tutorials.

⚔️ 9. Rank-Up Match

A special multi-game series to unlock the next CPU level. Separate from daily challenges.

① When It Triggers
When you reach a specific rank, the right to challenge the next promotion rank is automatically granted.

* RM = Reverse Match

② Basic Rules

③ Don't Worry About Failing
You can retry as many times as you like. Take your time until you're satisfied.
